Cecil L. Rhodes, 75, of Oblong, died 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.  Born in Alma, Michigan on November 1, 1936, he was the son of Charles Rhodes and Bertha (Wood) Rhodes.  He grew up on the family farm the youngest of three children.  Older sister Mildred “Millie” and brother, Wallace “Wally” Rhodes.

He graduated from Oblong High School Class of 1954.  He was in the Air Force for four years; during that time he was stationed at Thule Aire Base in Greenland.  He was a part of the Radar Control Center team during the Cold War.  He worked for over 26 years at OSU in Columbus, Ohio and retired as Supervisor of the Electronic Research and Maintenance Lab.  In retirement he moved back to the family farm.  He attended several Churches and Sunday School classes in Oblong and Robinson.  He enjoyed reading and loved taking care of his cats.  He was a recent resident of the Brookstone Community in Robinson and enjoyed the friendships he made there.

He was a Very Special Uncle and friend.  Survived by his two nephews and niece-in-law, Patrick & Peggy McLaughlin and Richard McLaughlin; two great-nephews, Chandler and Dillon McLaughlin; special cousins Dean and Wanda Rhodes and special friends and neighbors Brian, Brenda and Chassey Lingafelter, Anna Fay Bush and Rev. Orlyn Cochran and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; sister and brother-in-law.
